First and foremost, I absolutely LOVE thrift shopping; however, my husband unfortunately does not share the same enthusiasm for the hobby as I do. That being said, I was finally able to convince Nick (my previously-mentioned husband) to venture into a local Goodwill with me on a "thrifty" date. The premise was that we were each supposed to buy something for the other before leaving the store, and then later present them to each other when we returned home.
I thought I would easily have the advantage seeing as how I go thrift shopping all the time, but I really couldn't find anything in the store that I thought he might like. I had to make-do by purchasing a couple of outdated & now ironic t-shirts that he'd probably wear only around the house. It wasn't until we got home that I realized he had seriously out-shopped me. Nick-1, Amber-0.
Nick bought me educational "basic reader" book that was used during the '60s at an Our Lady of the Valley Catholic school. The inside cover has a placard with the all dates & names of those in which the book was originally issued to, but even more endearing, it also has couple's names scrawled on the cover page such as "I love Brian" in varying emmaculate scripts. There are several different stories and poems in the book including one of my favorite American poems, "Casey At Bat" and even a short story written by Jules Verne.
Back at the store, I'm sure Nick just hurriedly nabbed something off the shelf that he thought I might like, but he seriously hit the nail on the head with this one. It's absolutely perfect and I can't wait to read it over the upcoming Christmas break!
